Project Status:

This project provides rapid sharing of pictures of wildlife as they cross selected mitigation structures across State Highway 9 in Colorado. The structures were built to decrease WVC while maintaining habitat connectivity. Safety and wildlife mitigations on this stretch include the first two wildlife overpasses in the state of Colorado, five wildlife underpasses, continuous game-proof fencing, wildlife escape ramps, deer guards, pedestrian pass-thru gates and small animal culverts. Photo monitoring started in December 2015 and will continue for 3-5 years post-construction. Approximately half of the project, including 3 underpasses and 1 overpass, was completed in 2015. The entire project is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2016.

Final Report: Phase II

This report describes the autmoated processes we developed for cameras used in environmental monitoring by state Departments of Transportation. These include web-services and artificial intelligence-based image processing to facilitate identificaiton of wildlife in camera trap images, as well as identifying images containing animals (vs. no animals).
